Counter height or bar height?

Measure from the floor to the underside of your counter. A 36 inch kitchen counter usually suits counter stools with a seat around 24 to 26 inches high. A 42 inch bar suits bar stools with a seat around 29 to 31 inches. Leave about 10 to 12 inches between the seat and the counter, and around 26 inches per stool along the counter.
